Ketubah is an ancient form of a modern habit of pre-wedding contracts. The contract guarantees for the woman a position in the society in the case of husband death and it also exactly defines her financial and social position.
The decorative style of ketubah is preserved. The text of the marriage contract is inscribed in the middle of the document, under the arch. Above the arch there are sometimes smaller fields containing ornaments and illustrations, lyrics with best wishes or other suitable symbols. The whole ketubah is bordered with various ornaments.
Concerning the text, currently some changes can be observed, namely in USA, where the contract text is translated into English language. Depending on the direction of the Jewish religion the wedding pair belongs to, the text can be modified.
